The electromagnetic field is recognized by research as having an
effect on human brains and bodies. In this recurring work, I have
modified the coils in fluorescent lamp ballasts to emit
electromagnetic fields (within reasonable levels) while the lamps
are lit. Around them, I place one or more radio receivers that
convert this field surrounding the artwork into sound. Being near it
during operation is a unique experience where an artwork influences
your emotions, senses, and something else. The invisible?
INFLATABLE FUN DECOY
Mny bounce houses are manufactured outside Europe, where the same
companies use identical methods to create realistic inflatable
replicas of military vehicles, airplanes, and artillery. In the
painting, I intertwine capitalism’s unempathetic play with war and
its impact on youth. Trying to interpret the connection between war
and the culture and norms one has been raised by is as
incomprehensible, uncomfortable, and abstract as the forms playing
on the canvas.
